Budget Adopted for 2023
At the December 8th Board Meeting, the Executive Board adopted the operating budget for 2023. Overall CGFOA is in a strong financial position and will be looking to enhance operations in 2023 by conservatively using fund balance. Additionally, members can expect no changes to member fees and dues for the next year!
2023 Education Program
Our planning for Education sessions will look a bit different in 2023. Expect to see an email communication from us in January with a call for sessions. Stay tuned for more details.

2022 Year in Review
The Colorado Government Finance Officers Association has a had a lot to celebrate throughout 2022! Listed below are some of the achievements and progress CGFOA board members, staff, volunteers, and members have made in 2022:
Ensuring Responsive and Innovative Services
- The CGFOA Board drafted the organization’s first-ever strategic plan. The strategic plan outlines long-term goals and strategies to position the Colorado government finance field as the standard of excellence. Over 220 members participated in a member survey and provided insight on what works and how our organization can be expanded to provide additional value.
- CGFOA completed a major support transition from the previous administrative services contractor to Sunshine Creative, led by Chelsea Bunker.
- CGFOA continues to implement administrative and technological improvements such as website enhancements, implementation of a new payment processes, and many others to improve the member experience or manage administrative costs.
- The Technical Issues Task Force, led by Kirk Weber, advocated for our community’s interest with a response to a GASB exposure draft issued in June.
Creating Inclusive Community and Member Engagement
- In a step towards ensuring that every voice has an opportunity to participate in the CGFOA community, the Scholarships and Grants committee, led by Amber Viera and Violet Watt, restored CGFOA’s ability to provide new-member grants and conference scholarships. Ten awards were provided to government finance professionals from across the state.
- The CGFOA Board adopted a more robust structure to support and recognize the contributions of volunteers. This work lays the foundation for future volunteer engagement initiatives.
Strengthening Education Services
- In addition to the Annual Conference, 28 virtual and in-person education sessions were programmed that provided members with opportunities to enhance their skills and gain CPE credits throughout the year.
- 400 attendees participated in CGFOA’s Annual Conference held in Grand Junction. Thanks to the work of many volunteers, government members, associate members, and sponsors, over 45 CPE eligible educational sessions were programmed for the community.
- The educational programming of 2022 would not be possible without the CGFOA Education Committee, led by Catrina Asher and Theresa Fox, and the countless number of volunteers that power sessions throughout the year.
Expanding Member Connections
- Approximately 170 new finance professionals have joined the CGFOA community in 2022. This represents a 24% increase and a total of about 860 members as of the end of this year.
- CGFOA is now on popular social media platforms! You can now find out about CGFOA happenings and connect with your peers on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
- CGFOA creates platforms to learn from and recognize the best and brightest from across the state. We asked for nominations to recognize your peers, and Sharon Spurlin, Town of Granby, was presented with the 2022 Finance Professional of the Year award for her meritorious service to her community over a 40-year period.
